DVD-etc was a print magazine that was created by Mike Laurino and came to prominence in the early to mid-2000s. The publication, along with its sister publication, HDTV Etc, were designed to provide useful insights, news and reviews in the booming world of home theater of that era. DVD-Video players powered the home theater boom that only exploded even more enthusiastically when the first flat HDTVs hit the market. $14,000 42 inch plasma TVs were truly a luxury goods item that spoke to the most well-heeled consumers but more importantly redefined the form factor of the television as we know it today. While 42 inch top-of-the-line HDTV cost much less than one tenth of what they did in DVD-etc's hey day – the important reviews from the publication helped set the tone for future category growth in the world of home theater and consumer electronics.
In 2008 a few years after DVD Etc. had stopped publishing the printed magazine, Luxury Publishing Group purchased DVD Etc and HDTV Etc from Laurino's group. The company republished much of the reviews on the (at the time) new HomeTheaterReview.com to create a back catalog of home theater products from the early to mid-2000s.
